LOUIS, MO – (March 24th, 2009) — The California desert at night time provided the background for the final race of the 2009 Gatorz Karting Cup. Under the lights at Lake Perris, seven classes did battle for the final time on the west coast before many of them pack their trailers and head east to the Rotax Grand Nationals in Norman, Oklahoma.

Although several of the championship battles had been decided ahead of the final race, there was great racing in each class and the evening proved a fitting end to a competitive season.

Micro Max
Jake Drew (CRG) took pole position ahead of championship leader Nicky Hays (birel) and Chloe St. George (Tornado).

Drew led from the start of the pre-final but St. George took second from Hays. The three ran in that order throughout the race until the checkered fell.

In the final, Hays led early from Drew and St. George, but St. George took the second spot on the second lap. The three ran like that for the first half of the race until Drew made his way into second, and a lap later, took the lead from Hays as the three worked through lapped traffic. The traffic also caused St. George to lose contact with the leading duo, and Drew slowly began to stretch a lead. Hays couldn’t catch him, and Drew took the checkered by five lengths ahead of Hays, who had a healthy lead over St. George.

It was Drew’s third win in MicroMax, pushing him to second in points, but second place was enough for Hays to clinch the MicroMax class championship.
